Airing Grievance. In Public?
Some stuff happened recently and shook our men in olives. This thing happened after I left and I got to know of it from good friends still in the organisation. That is to say, I actually got wind of this event alot earlier then the general public.
I must say that I was very surprised when I heard about it.
The first thought that race through my mind was the protagonist has done something that many would want to do for a long time but did not quite muster the courage to do so. I must admit that I have never thought of doing that in my entire 2 years in the organisation. Ok! Maybe only 1 year before I receive my email account and rights.
Most importantly, I didn't think that I could change the system and I wasn't in a bit confident of challenging the system and getting away with it. Worst still, I was very confident that nothing would have happened and the same problem will still be there.
I am of the same vocation as the protagonist and was a batch early of him in training institute. As a matter of fact, my understudy is from the same batch. I heard fantastic stories about the protagonist himself. Well, I try to keep an open mind and take the stories I heard with a pinch of salt. He didn't ask to be in the limelight afterall.
My views? I believe that the protagonist himself wishes to surface this problem out of concern and not for self-glorification. The stakes are simply too high.
Why? Come on! It is too easy and convinient to turn a blind eye to everything and anything in the organisation. The mundane work... the thankless tasks... I was always under the impression that I am expendable. So much for my two cents worth of views! I didn't believe that the system is doing me justice back then. Would I be convinced that the system will perform otherwise based on my actions?
It would be simply be too easy to go under the radar, do what is required, served the tenure and leave the organisation as someone who has done his dues to the nation. Especially if economics is beckoning me at MIT. I simply got too much to lose.
I say give the man credit for doing the right thing and punishment for using the wrong method. It's the organisation afterall. I had subordinates who were given extra duty by my superior for jumping the chain of command. The protagonist should not be treated otherwise. Reprimandation is nothing compared to some punishments that I get sometimes.
Then again, while I understand that following the chain of command has its real value and is part of the doctrinal teachings. But how does the concept of whistle-blower fit in this context? Can immunity for whistle-blower ever take place here? Duh~
Enough banter on that!~
